Make Visual Novels exists to push visual novel creators to new heights and introduce people to the joy of making visual novels.   We rely heavily on our sponsors and donators to afford things for the community, such as packs like this one, useful websites like the Visual Novel Developer Wiki: VNDev.wiki, and running big events like the Spooktober Visual Novel Jam. Your contributions to this Placeholder Pals! pack will be used to fund upcoming events, like the educational DevTalks or more competitions.  Lets make awesome visual novels together!

Make Visual Novels! Placeholder Pals

You have so much to do to set up your visual novel's scenes, but before you can even really get started, you need the assets, and who knows when those will be done! "Guess we'll just have to wait until the sprite artist logs out of their MMO before we can start configuring our scenes."

Never fear, because the Placeholder Pals are here!  Get started on arranging your characters in your scenes with these ...???  Whatever they are, you can use them to compose your visual novel screens before the final assets are done.

Instructions

1. Download the zips containing the sizes closest to what you'd expect your sprites to be at, or grab the closest one and resize them
2. Put them in your visual novel engine of choice, or use them in your power point presentations.
3. No, those aren't the same thing, stop saying that!
4. Use them to set up your character placements in your scenes until the final art is done!
5. If you're using RenPy, consider checking out the RenPy staging pack to help you arrange your new pals even faster!

What's in it?

1. 16 Stick puppet based placeholders.
2. Gremlins (I'm pretty sure #14 is going to prison soon)
3. At least one cursed pal.
4. No visual novel propaganda, but one them is my secret agent. (and it's not who you think it is)

What makes it awesome?

1. They're hard to miss, so if you accidentally leave one in, you'll find it when you play test.    You're playtesting, right?
2. There's a blank one so you can make your own goofy placeholder pals.
3. Engine agnostic assets!... because they're just pictures
